Personal injury: Truck driver ignored signs, and crash resulted

After a fireman was struck and killed by a drunk driver while assisting another driver along the side of the road, Illinois legislatures passed Scott's Law. The law is also known as the "Move Over" law, and violations of it can result in thousands of dollars in fines and suspended driving privileges. Recently, a semi-truck driver was charged with violating the law after his actions resulted in the personal injury of a construction worker.

The 44-year-old male truck driver committed the violation in a construction zone. Reportedly, the driver approached the construction zone in the right lane of the interstate, and traffic was being directed to merge into the left lane. Instead of merging, he reportedly drove around the construction truck that had an arrow sign directing everyone to the left. After passing the truck, he continued to drive in the right lane that was closing to traffic.

A second construction truck was placed closer to the construction zone, and the truck driver reportedly attempted to drive around it as well. Instead of driving around it, he crashed into it. He and the 25-year-old driver of the construction truck were both injured and required medical treatment. The semi-truck driver has been charged with disobeying a traffic controller, failure to reduce speed and a Scott's Law violation.

Some accident victims may find it appropriate to file a personal injury lawsuit in civil court when injuries result due to negligent driving. Because it is difficult to understand all the legal options, Illinois attorneys are able to assist victims with understanding. Experienced attorneys are equipped to handle and negotiate with truck companies.
